Mr. Ford

Welcome to...

November, 2016

Jambo  (Jambo means "Hello" in Swahili) students, parents, and staff of Nimitz 9th grade.  My name is Hezekiah Ford III and I’m a native of Mulberry, FL.  This is my second year teaching in Texas here at Nimitz 9th.  This is my 20th year of teaching with 6 years from the K-12 (Florida, Tennessee, & Texas) system and 14 years at the college level (Florida, Michigan, & Tennessee).

I have been teaching developmental mathematics at the university level for 10 years and six years teaching mathematics for mathematics majors.  During this time I had the honor of working as an adjunct instructor with academic support at Tallahassee Community College (TCC).

My most recent teaching responsibility was teaching mathematics courses at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU).  Many of the students’, who register for preparatory algebra, enter FAMU with a large deficit in their knowledge of mathematics. For this reason, my colleagues and I have created an environment where we meet regularly to collaborate with lesson development. This environment has proven successful for our student’s success with mathematics. Since I taught preparatory algebra, the class was very interactive as opposed to utilizing lecture as the main source of instruction.   During instruction, I asked my students many questions in order to connect what they already knew to the new lesson.  The students and I learned from one another on a daily basis.

During the academic year 2006/2007, I taught transitional college algebra at Middle Tennessee State University.  I had much success due to small class sizes and the technology enhanced classrooms.  In addition, I attended many innovative workshops on campus to further my professional development.  Not only do I have the experience teaching preparatory mathematics and transitional college algebra, I have also taught mathematics for mathematics majors. This experience was at Michigan Technological University and FAMU where I taught College Algebra, Business Calculus, Calculus I and II.
