Nimitz Ninth would like to congratulate our amazing dance teacher Mrs. Danielle Washington-Ekwerekwu for being selected to dance at the Super Bowl. "Mrs. Ek", as our students call her, was selected out of 550 applicants to dance at the Patriots pre-game party. Mrs. Washington-Ekwerekwu is a product of Aldine ISD, having graduated from Carver Magnet High School. This is her second year at Nimitz Ninth Grade. She received her certification to teach ballet to levels 1-5 from the American Ballet Theater in New York City. She also trained at N.Y.U, where she received her Masters in Dance Education. We’re glad to have her as a instructor, leader and a role model. Way to go Ms. Ek!

Here's what she had to say about her experience,

“The agency that was contracted to take care of the Super Bowl's performers is called Kreate Inc., based out of LA. They held auditions at the beginning of December, and over 550 dancers performers came out over the span of 2 days. There were 2 rounds we had to go through in order to make it to the final round, which was the selection process. 4 ½ weeks after the audition is when they made phone calls to the 35 dancers who were selected.

We practiced from 10am-6pm M-F the week before the Super Bowl and 12pm-8pm the Saturday right before the game. We performed at the Patriots pre and post party that was held at NRG. We were in the same lineup as John Legend, Pitbill, Snoop Dogg and Lil Wayne. The entire Patriots team was there along with many celebrities.

Hands down the best experience of my life, more mind blowing than my years on the Houston rockets and the San Antonio Spurs dance teams.”
